Wild Horse Equestrian Center was overrun with 23 mules and three horses in April 2007 for the 8th annual Brad Cameron Mule Clinic. All nine colts in the colt starting class were being ridden by the end of the 4-day clinic. One horse proved that no matter how gentle they are the first saddling can be pretty scary for them. She stood and was saddled like she had done it every day, then when she was asked to move she exploded! She bucked and bellowed and threw herself over, but by the end of the day she was carrying the saddle like an old hand. By the end of the clinic she was proving she will be a really nice trail horse.
There were 15 riders in the mulemanship class that went away with a better foundation on which to build on in the future.
Gerhard Yazzie of Chinle, AZ was the sponsored youth this year; he rode in the mulemanship class and practiced getting his mule as soft in the face as he could. He did such a good job that the mule went home to Montana with Cameron for his son, Conner.
Once again, Brother Jim showed up early each morning and had coffee and donuts made by the time people showed up for the clinic. Brad’s assistant, Karen Anderson, was very appreciative of the donuts. Lunches were provided by several club members.
THE CHUCK WAGON

On Saturday evening Ron-D-View Mules sponsored a chuck wagon dinner for the people attending the clinic. Entertainment was provided by Tyler Wilbanks on banjo, and Dave Harwood recited cowboy poetry.
Also on Saturday, Brad presented Ron-D-View with a custom made mule head stall as the clinic host with the most attendees out of 22 clinics in 2006.
Harwood harrowed the area with one of his big horses and the mule he had in last year’s colt starting. He was never able to get on the mule in that clinic, but by putting what he learned in the clinic to good use, has turned the mule around and she is turning out to be a pretty good animal.

We had riders from all over this year; the one traveling the furthest was Jessica White of Ravenna, OH. There were also riders from Albuquerque, NM and Basalt, CO.
In the end, this was a very successful clinic. This year’s clinic is scheduled for April 11-14.
